In Consideration of School Uniforms Essay - 1216 Words

School Uniforms A group of small boys and girls all wearing the same colored school uniforms assembled in front of a catholic school is what I imagine when thinking about school uniforms. This is probably what most people imagine. They have been attached to students of European and private schools. Such pictures of students dressing in school uniforms have led to stereotyping and a negative attitude towards schools enforcing a uniform policy. This would not be limited to academic performances only but should also include other socially learned behavior that will enhance the students’ ability to conform to the social norms needed to be successful in today’s society. People for uniforms say that the academic performance has been and will increase by having the students ware them (Caruso 1996). He contributed to much of the research in the field of chemistry. He is quoted for saying, Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed. Lavoisier found that the weight of the products of combustion equals the weight of the reacting ingredients. This observation became known as the law of conservation of mass (or matter). He repeated many of the experiments of earlier chemists but interpreted the results far differently. On 1772 he was studying on combustion, which he is most known for in science. Lavoisier presented an important memoir on conversion of water into earth evaporation. This brought him to the Oxygen Theory of Combustion. On 1774 Lavoisier carried out experiments on calcinations of tin and lead and confirmed the increase of weight of metals on calcinations from combustion of air. By demonstrating the nature of combustion, he disproved the phlogiston theory. The phlogiston theory stated that all flammable materials contained a substance called phlogiston. According to this theory, materials gave off phlogiston as they burned. Air was necessary for combustion because it absorbed the phlogiston that was rel eased. This was thought at the time to be a fact. Lavoisier showed this theory to be false and made oxygen the reason that things burned, not phlogiston. Lavoisier burned textbooks that supported the theory. Reasoned Action Theory Of Planned Behavior -Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Reasoned Action Theory Of Planned Behavior? Answer: Introduction It is a well-known fact that leaders are not made, they are born. Instances from history and the present world abounds that exemplify the values and traits of a true leader. A leader could be from any field, be it politics, culture, society or organization. In the modern world, it is extremely important for a leader to have a sound knowledge of ethics, management and the values of teamwork. Previously, several theories and models of leadership have been developed that define the different leadership styles (Latham 2014). However, none of the theories had the perfect definition of a true leader. In this essay, I try to provide a novel theory or model of leadership that encompasses most of the traits of previous models and includes other unique traits as well. The new leadership model is applied in organizational contexts as well. I would also elaborate on the skills of the new leader and compare other models as well. Main organizing idea of the new leadership style A leader possesses innumerable skills that differentiate him or her from the crowd. Several ideas define leadership styles that include credibility, vision, honesty, relationships and so on. Among the many theories and models of leadership, the Contingency Theory, Behavioral Theory and Transactional and Transformational leadership theory are the ones that are being followed the most. accounting to Anderson et al. (2017), these theories have not been scientifically proven to exert any influence on individual traits. Apart from that, the theories present ambiguous situations where it becomes unclear what the theory is trying to pose. McCleskey (2014), however argues that the development of these theories have provided a base for the upcoming scholars and intellects to define leadership they observe in different strata of life. The new leadership model however would be based on the idea of compassion and discipline. I believe that compassion is what a human being must have to lead as an example. In my model, thus, the leader would possess high level of compassion that is love and care for others. In addition, the leader would exhibit extreme discipline that would go simultaneously with compassion. It is important for a leader to feel for others because basic human values strike a chord with people above everything (Joseph et al. 2015). With the combination of compassion and discipline, the leader would be able to acquire other skills as well. This would be accomplished through deep observation of others and being genuine to self. Compassion makes a person better human and discipline makes him sustain every difficulty because being compassionate in a competitive world is tough. Traits of the new leader According to many scholars, leadership traits are such that distinguishes an individual from others. In the Contingency model, a leader has been said to possess the quality to make decisions instantly depending on the situation. The Behavioral Theory on the contrary states that there is one single way to lead and the leader displays skills of having concern for multiple elements of an organization. Day et al. (2014) mention five major skills that a leader possesses that include communication, passion, commitment, team building and determination. I agree with these qualities because not only leaders but also every human being must possess these skills. A leader stands out because he applies these skills differently and evolves better with these skills. The new leader as per my new model would have these above-mentioned skills along with the skill of managing time and having the power to motivate. Bhuvanaiah and Raya (2014) view motivation as the fuel of success. The authors have further stated that the combination of motivation power and determination skills can create a leader that has no match. To be an effective leader, we have to set examples of what he or she preaches. Giving motivational speeches is very different from performing actions that motivate. Here, the famous phrase, practice what you preach must be remembered. Leaders exert influence when they compel others to follow them, not the other way round. An effective leader must not compete or make rivals, he or she must make others follow and admire them. Core values of the new leadership model Anderson and Sun (2017) have put forth the view that all leadership models have the same core values because it is obvious that a leader will have these values. We as human beings adhere to certain values and those values are attained from different societal institutions like our family, friends, colleagues, schools and so on. It is but also true that no human being follows each value in life. In simple words, no human being is perfect; everyone has flaws. However, to be a leader it is crucial to maintain and respect most values in life. Apart from the already mentioned - compassion and discipline my leadership model will have values such as integrity, courage, intellectualism, genuinity and revolutionary. These values combined with the skills and ideas, would allow the new leader to exercise an influence that would bring revolutionary changes in any team that he or she leads. In addition, these values would empower the leader to comprehend various cultural dimensions while leading a team. Applying the new leadership model in organizational context I must also mention that the new compassionate model of leadership cannot be easily applied in the present organizational structure. It is going to be a slow but successful process before the model is finally accepted. However, my leadership model is most likely to benefit the ongoing relationships that are visible in the modern organizations. The quality of compassion has the power to produce exemplary teamwork in an organization by creating and maintaining a strong bond (George 2014). Along with compassion, the values of humility and motivational skills, organizational relationships that involve the customer-client, leader-employee and company-client would see a transformational change. Google is a great example of an existing organization that demonstrates traits of the new leadership model. The statement can be validated from the organizational culture that Google has (Fortune.com 2018). It treats its employees like members of own family, showing great compassion. I must also point out that leadership models and theories were developed after observing people and their styles of leadership. Gradually, organizations formed and were lead by people who possessed certain qualities. Hence, leaders who led organizations gave rise to the development of these theories and not vice versa. Porath, Gerbasi and Schorch (2015) have rightly pointed out that people give rise to theories and not the theories that shape people. However, if my model of leadership were being used in any organization, it would have a culture where there was no place for unethical conduct. We can observe in almost every existing organization that someone or the other has compromised ethical values either under political or economic pressure or under too much greed for success. The new leadership model of compassion seeks to achieve an organizational structure that lays much stress on humans as the most valuable resources. This involves putting multiculturalism at the peak of organizational missions and visions. My leadership model further seeks to form an organizational culture where ethics and rules are followed and that it is exemplified by the leader. Compassion along with discipline ensures that the leader would not be carried away with compassion but maintain discipline in the organization (Simpson 2015). Similarities and Unique features of the new leadership model from other models Although my leadership model has many similarities with the older models and theories, it has included compassion as the most important element. On the one hand, it displays elements of the Major theory while on the other it shows traits of the Behavioral theory (Montano and Kasprzyk 2015). In the end, however, the compassionate model of leadership conveys distinctiveness and effectiveness from other theories. In my personal life, I have always been compassionate and valued discipline. I would allow my employees to express their opinions and make sure that those opinions given importance. Further, I would create an environment where my employees do not have to be forced or threatened to follow rules, as they would do it willingly. With compassion as the main idea of my leadership style, my organization would enjoy the moral duty to respect and care for every individual irrespective of the culture he or she hails from. Conclusion The new leadership model as proposed by me would thus be effective in raising the status of an organization and produce an exemplary leader. We know the importance of a good leadership for the success of an organization and its smooth functioning. Developing leadership styles that address the changing needs of the modern competitive world is very crucial. However, it is also important to realize the value of humans as resources and treat them not like machines but humans. In the essay, I have proposed a leadership model, which I have named the Compassionate Model of Leadership that upholds values such as integrity, courage, determination and authenticity and so on. In addition, I have also presented the models relevance in the organizational context. In the end, I have demonstrated the way I would personally apply the new leadership model in my organization. Violence Analysis Essay Example For Students

Violence Analysis Essay Violence in high schools is present in many places in the school. A survey was taken by five high schools. Both students and teachers were given maps to their schools and asked to identify where and when the most violent events and most dangerous places in the school were at. The participants, or the teachers and students were also asked to identify the ages and sexes of the people who committed the violent acts and of the people who they were committed against. Later the participants were questioned about why they thought these were the most dangerous areas and why these certain types of people committed the violent acts. The findings were that they mostly occurred in places such as hallways, dining areas, and parking lots. All of these places are where authority figures are not usually found. The purpose of this survey was to see if interventions should be made to heighten the sense of awareness between students and teachers about these places where problems most occur. As I said before the methods used to obtain this information was five surveys to five high schools. Since I have recently left the high school environment I believe that this study is one of relative importance. In my younger years of high school, basically my freshman and sophomore years, fights and violent acts occurred regularly. Usually around two a week. And they usually occurred in the same places. Junior things had drastically changed. I remember walking into school and going through a metal detector at the entrance of the school. At first I was somewhat offended but did feel safer. And as the year went on I noticed that fights were not occurring as much. I noticed that teachers were now standing outside their classes in the halls at breaks between classes, police were in the parking lots all the time and cameras were now at every corner. Although I felt like I was in a prison I asked the principal later that year how many fights had occurred. Remarkably finding that only three had occurred the entire year. I believe that this study relates very closely with my school. This article shows that by knowing where the dangerous areas are and improving student relations improves the well being of the entire school. And that by placing cameras and security guards at the designated, â€Å"dangerous areas†, many violent acts can be prevented if not stopped. I see a definite connection between this article and my high school. Because the changes were made the school environment was a safer place. All because the administration knew where the problems were occurring and how to stop themBibliography:

An Analysis of Queen Elizabeths Speech to Englands Troops

An Analysis of Queen Elizabeths Speech to Englands Troops Throughout history, speeches have been used as effective means for expressing yourself to the masses. Leaders on all levels have come to appreciate the fact that a well crafted speech can be a powerful agent when trying to evoke particular sentiments in people. Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on An Analysis of Queen Elizabeths Speech to Englands Troops specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Queen Elizabeth I of England proved to be a powerful and compelling orator in her speech to her troops as they prepared to take up arms against the Spanish Armada in 1588. In this paper, I shall review her speech with the aim of deducing the main arguments that the queen advanced. Her feelings towards her audience shall be inferred based on her words. The queens ideas and beliefs will also be highlighted from the contents of the speech. This speech is addressed to the English troops at the battle field. The queen understands the sacrific e that the troops are about to make for their country and for this she proclaims them noble and worthy subjects. The apparent reason for the queens speech is to motivate her troops in the face of the imminent conflict with the Spaniards. The queen aims to convince the troops that their fight is for a worthy cause and that their noble action of defending their country will not go unnoticed by the queen and the people of England. The queen empathizes with the soldiers and concedes that despite there being lives lost in the heat of the battle, England will be safe. The battle that England faces is against Spain, an equally matched opponent at that point in time. The queen asserts that while some may view surrendering to Spain as the safe means, this would be equivalent to treachery to the motherland. By making such a strong declaration, the queen aims to appeal to the patriotism of the soldiers. She further states that she is also ready and willing to die in battle for the kingdom of England together with her soldiers should she be called upon to do so. From Elizabeths words, we can tell with certainty that she is a patriot at heart and the honor of her country is of great importance to her. It is this same values that she intends to impart onto the soldiers for it is on them that the fate of England will lie. Advertising Looking for essay on history? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More It is also apparent that Elizabeth believes that her countrys troops are not only a match for the Spaniards but that they have the capability of conquering the Spanish forces in battle. With this conviction, she predicts a short lived confrontation in which England emerges victorious. The speech suggests that there exists some religious animosity between the two warring nations. One can deduce from the reference to the Spanish forces by the queen as enemies of my God that there were religious undertones that surrounde d the conflict. Bearing in mind that the Spanish people were the leading Catholic power while England had embraced the Protestant sect, it is evident that the two facets of the Christian religion were at loggerheads. The light in which women were viewed during this period in history can also be learnt from this speech. The queen contends that she has but the body of a weak and feeble woman. This indicates that the women in England were viewed as weak people who needed protecting. Her declaration that she is willing to take up a sword and fight for the country is as a last resort; that is if her nation should be invaded. The queen is certain that her troops would not let the situation degenerate to such an extent. This paper set out to analyze the speech by Queen Elizabeth so as to discover the various ideas advanced through the speech. It has been identified that this speech was mainly aimed at motivating Englands troops before they faced the Spanish forces in battle. However, the a nalysis provided in this paper demonstrates that religious differences also played a part in the conflict between Spain and England.

The dream of America merits referencing that individuals cant quantify its roots on what they possess since they have to apply its standards to social issues and patterns. The initial segment is the fantasy of wealth. Its about the capacity to be loaded up with material merchandise. Numerous different nations begrudge a country or shoppers and makers because just a couple of them can coordinate the sheer scope of merchandise that America makes. Consider the fantasy of majority rule government and equivalent rights. This idea is about individuals capacity to purchase merchandise, paying little respect to their identity and where theyre from, and it connects back to their sacred rights. The fantasy of opportunity of decision is another critical part. It binds back to the constitution of the state that enables individuals to pick their very own ways of life, utilize distinctive merchandise, and discover the opportunity to become the people they want to become. Remember about the fantasy of curiosity. Its about the idea of a widening of the purchase decision, and it haggy affects the American culture today. Current abilities on interest continue changing after some time. Its a bit much for individuals to work in explicit regions to get along in their lives since they can make sure that theres dependably an interest to specialty aptitudes to furnish them with increased opportunities of the decision. The structure is huge for the American vision since it wouldnt have the capacity to drive forward without this authoritative record. These days, the American vision remains applicable. How individuals make it work out change, yet its essential standards continue as before, and the principle contrast is that youngsters pick advancement strategies to approach their interest. The American vision is an image of success. Does the American dream still exist paper today? A few people contend if the American dream remains realistic and alive. They all have one of a kind qualities and lives. This implies individuals have distinctive meanings of the American dream. One of the principal reasons why its flourishing is that there exist unlimited open doors that individuals get once a day. Numerous state-funded schools furnish their understudies with the devices and strategies they need to prosper, so its possibly up to them if to utilize them to accomplish life objectives or not. An additional fact that justifies America vision that individuals have several opportunities of job disposed to them. However, in the end, not everybody becomes a popular doctor or lawyer, though all of them can be prosperous and earn their livelihood. There are a lot of opportunities available in the world. There is a wide range of jobs to select from, like engineers, lab workers, technicians, electricians, apprentices, and construction laborers among others. There is no need of going to a training college. Several prosperous and successful individuals did not acquire a college degree, and this did not prevent them from ensuring their dream of America came true. What makes individuals have a feeling that the dream is not true today? A large number of individuals think in this manner at the end because of the influence the economy has on them. America is known to have a slower growth rate of the economy and weaker employment markets, and this is the reason most profits from interest rates are not disclosed to the public. National borrowing of the country is a bit high that is another factor that contributes, though it leads to increased taxes that enable the government to collect increased revenue. The basic undesirable influence of the national borrowing is intensifying inflation. Notably, it can result in a decreased living standard. Regardless of the undesirable patterns that have been mentioned above, desirable factors and concepts are attesting that the dream of America is still alive in the contemporary world. Several individuals relentlessly pursue it for diverse purposes. Some individuals want it for their happiness, whereas others opt to become wealthy or accomplish other goals of life.

Strategic management - Essay Example The lower correlation value of securities in portfolio means lower list. Correlation can vary between -1 to +1. ï ²(Ri, RM) denotes the correlation between the returns on security i and the returns on the market portfolio; ï ³(Ri) denotes the standard deviation of the returns on security i, E(RM) denotes the expected return on the market portfolio; ï ³(RM) denotes the standard deviation of the returns on the market portfolio; and RF denotes the risk-free rate of return. (c) Write down an expression for the security market line. Draw a sketch of the security market line, and indicate the positions of securities A and B on this line. Explain briefly how you would interpret the security market line. The risk free rate of returns is 4%. Beyond that, the higher the risk, higher the returns. In the above Security Market Line, Security A gives 4.5% returns at 10% risk. Security B gives 5.2% returns at 20% risk. The slope of the security market line is the risk(B-Beta). (d) Write down expressions for the characteristic lines for securities A and B. Draw sketches of the characteristic lines for securities A and B. Explain briefly how you would interpret the characteristic lines. The systematic risk is common for all the securities in the market. So, the systematic risk is common for the securities A and C too. The unsystematic risk is unique to each and every security. The risk of Securities A and C are 6% and 11% respectively. The systematic risk has to be less than 6%. Assuming that systematic risk is x %, the unsystematic risk for security A would be 6%-x% and for Security C would be 11%-x%. Since 11%-x% would be greater than 6%-x%, the Security C has higher risk compared to Security A. Roll questioned whether it is even conceptually possible to test the CAPM. Roll showed that the linear relationship which prior researchers had observed in graphs

In Palm Beach, Old Money Isn't Having a Ball Essay - 1

In Palm Beach, Old Money Isn't Having a Ball - Essay Example The Red Cross Ball in Palm Beach has, for nearly half a century, brought together the island’s upper-crust families to drink, dance, donate money and is easily the most prestigious party for old Palm Beach society. Top socialites, foreign ambassadors, entertainment superstars and occasional royalty from Europe mingle with Palm Beach’s newcomers and hundreds of out-of-town friends that can shell out money to give out and donate as well as pay for their designer tuxedos’ and gowns, flashy jewelries and cars. This has led to a somewhat tolerable â€Å"battle† between old and new money and is holding true to all traditional blue-blood communities in the country. Arguably, new money has surged in the Unite States and has overtaken the older elite in terms of statistics. This is evidenced by the journal documenting that â€Å"the number of the super wealthy in the U.S. has surged with 430,000 households now worth more than $10 million. That’s up from 65,000, adjusted for inflation in 1989. In 2001, the top 1% of Americans ranked by net worth controlled 33% of all personal assets.† (Frank 2005) Increasingly, these clashes between the desire of the nouveaux rich being accepted into high society by buying their way into exclusive clubs and into the stream of the old wealthy and the actual acceptance they receive hasn’t significantly changed. The old rich safely guard and selectively choose which clubs can be joined in. For the nation’s richest, this rapid shift in the composition of the wealthiest Americans is striking. Inherited money is being taken over by entrepreneurial endeavors of businessmen. Case in point is Bill Gates’ $48 billion net worth is more than twice the Rockefeller family’s current fortune. (Frank 2005) This striking difference is never been more evidently felt than in the Palm Beach area where the influx of new money has ignited off disputes over realty values as the status symbols. Importance of Matrifocal family in the caribbean Essay Example for Free

Importance of Matrifocal family in the caribbean Essay The Matrifocal family Is very prominent in the Caribbean. This is noted more as among people of Africans in the regions. Reasons for this diversity, Cultural Retention, Plantation system of slavery, SOCIO economic and the culture of property. Cultural retention, Melville Herkevitts was one of the first researchers to trace the African Origin of the slaves who came to the Americans he believed that despite attempts to strip Africans slaves ot their cultural heritage the practice ot polygyny was retained from the practice. affected by bonding and closeness of mother and child because the husband/ father was somewhat marginal. This pattern remained in the Caribbean society especially about lower class people of African descent. Plantation system, there is the belief that the persistence of the Matrifocal family can be seen as a consequence of the plantation system of slavery, M. C. Smith wrote that under plantation slavery stables families were not given a chance to develop unions of whatever sort, were often broken up as slaves were sold. The unit of mother and child was less likely to be torn apart than a unit of man, woman and child, males were denied family rights which resulted in a system of female centeredness therefore became marginalise. Women now lead their families. It is a well-organized social group which represents a positive adaptauon to the circumstances of poverty. By not tying herself down to a husband. the mother is able to maintain causal relationships with a number of men who can provide her with financial support. The above Information shows that the Matrlfocal family can be regarded as a form of family structure in its own right. It is therefore Important because it shows that a woman doesnt need a man to take care of her and her family, she If fully cable of performing both tasks all by herself. so Matrltocal family Is very Important.

The Attitude of Howard Hughes :: Inventors

Although Howard Hughes had a very cocky attitude, he did what he needed to do to finish his life goals: "Things I want to be 1. The best golfer in the world. 2. The best flyer pilot. 3. the most famous producer of moving pictures." Goals written on the back of a receipt (p55) His attitude was so impressive that it led to a major contribution in the world of aviation. The steps that he took, not listening to people say that he cannot do it, great secrecy, the need for perfection, and he does what ever is necessary to get the job done, that along side of his Texan attitude would lead to one of the greatest achievements in aviation. This great achievement was that of pressurized cabins which led to being able to fly higher and faster, thus cutting down travel time and expenses. Howard Hughes?s attitude was astounding, a quote from him which reads ?Bob, please read the attached article. It refers to me as a millionaire, while others have called me a billionaire. I?m very concerned about this change in perception and the effect it will have on our businesses? (Richard Hack P xi). This is showing how great of an attitude he has if he can be so picky that he worries about if people view him as a millionaire rather than a billionaire. When Hughes had something to tell someone he had no problem with worrying about what they would think about it, or who that person is. When Howard said ?I am a little tired of being pushed around and intimidated by Senators Brewster and Ferguson just because they have some very strong powers which are granted to all Senators but which were not intended to be misused for the promotion of a three-ring publicity circus.? (P159) This shows that Hughes obviously did not care if he was talking about senators talking down on him or just a normal person. He just does not care who they are- he will not take it. We all know that Howard had money because of his great attitude, ?While the rest of America was having trouble placing food on the table, Hughes felt the effect only when he decided to buy a new plane, and was told that he needed to pay for his purchase with cash.? This shows how rich he was, but more importantly it shows that he can be very cocky about it.

Youth Unemployment

The youth unemployed should be one the groups the most in need for financial support in Hong Kong. They face keen competition and suffer from the local economic regression, which create difficulty to them earning a living. Young people, in general, refers to people in the age groups of 15-19 and 20-24 (Chung Kim-wah 2009). They are recognized as labor force in Hong Kong, but their employment opportunities are not optimistic. Those school leavers in the age of 15-24 entering the labor market have little competitiveness compared graduate job applicants, especially when the supply of graduate workers are so abundant in the market (Chung Kim-wah 2009). The unemployment rate of them keeps rising and reached 19. 5% in 2008 (Youth Study Series 2009). Those unemployed receive no salary while they need money for daily expenses, creating potential financial burden on them. Facing competition among themselves, the young graduates are not any better either.Nowadays, the large number of graduates makes the labor market saturated, providing the employers so many choices (Chung Kim-wah 2009), not to mention that a number of them are still obliged to pay for their grad loan. The young unemployed population, both graduates and non-graduates, have to compete fiercely for the limited job positions in the market. Such pessimistic employment prospect has strong relation to Hong Kong economic regression, which causes shrinkage in labor market (Youth Study Series 2009).While the number of job vacancies is declining, more and more young school leavers and fresh graduates enter the marekt seeking for jobs, resulting in increasing unemployment. Both the problems of vigorous competition and economic slowdown cannot be easily solved and need a long term economic adjustment. The young unemployed have little to do to escape from the predicament. Financial support from the government may give temporary but necessary assistance to them. The form of financial support given may affect the extent of assistance to the young unemployed.First, I suggest that further education fund and scheme should be set up for the young people to further study. Under the scheme, courses of different professions, ranging from information technology to business management, should be provided to young school leavers. They could take courses according to their own interest. After they acquire different skills, they can re-enter into labor markets of their respective professions. In this way, labor supply can be diversified and competition can be reduced. Also, the government can also subsidize local companies who are going to recruit young employees. In this time of economic hardship, companies may not dare to bear the risk to expand their crews. With government subsidy, some companies may react with incentive and are be willing to provide job positions to the young unemployed, creating some job vacancies for them. References Chung, Kim-wah. Buddhism & History

Buddhism is a spiritual practice that leads to insight true nature of life It’s a practice of mind developing like the awareness ,kindness and wisdom. The history of transformation of Japanese marriage and kinship over the course of Hein (794-1185) and Kamakura (1185-1333). The role of Buddhist funerary and memorial rituals in creation. Graveyards have been deserted and lonely places were known as such, yet there is something inappropriate in this. In the beginning of the eleventh century we find no evidence of such resident grave tenders. In the later periods,  the development of more permanent stone markers for graves, the burial became a site of worship. It became the place to define a family group and strengthen the bond of kinship. The preservation of bones and the development of maintained, regularly visited grave are indicators of the signification of Japanese kinship practices that took place through the medium of Buddhist death ritual and memorial practice. The langu age of kinship and gender of the Chinese ritual has changed the Japanese family. The introduction of Chinese Buddhist ideas about the postmortem lives of families had ramifications for many generations of men and women to come.Women in Japan were not always temporary members of the families of their birth. The women kept their family names after marriage. A daughter would leave their family to become a wife and a mother with the family which she would come to be identified. At death she would join the family lineage as the consort of father-cum-ancestor and genetrix link of the present link of the patrilineal link. It was Buddhist rituals that shape family links. The burial of daughters with their father’s represents the continuing indispensability of women in the avuncular politics. They died as their father’s daughter’s and buried amongpartrilineal relatives, their bones revered ancestral relics by the children and grandchildren of their brother. In addition t o age restrictions, Japan also prohibits close relatives from getting married. This is a very common marriage rule that is held by many modern nations. Close relatives include blood relatives, step relatives and adoptive relatives. However, the period of most intense preoccupation with. Keeping daughter’s' bone’s â€Å"in the family† ironically marked the initial entrenchment of agnatic, or partrilineal, principles of descent in Japan. The posthumous divorce was common in mayareas in Japan. This was the custom was that the most women commit suicide or had failed to produced male children was sent back to her natal family. This act signifies severing of ties with the dead women and responsibilities for her funeral rite, burial and memorial services back onto her family that had raised her. The idea of married woman belongs to their husbands and sons comes as no surprises. The memorial practices gathered by the Japanese folklorist in the twentieth century reveal a great deal of regional variation. Japanese kinship system daughters leaves their families to live and die.The idea that a daughter should stay with her father came to apply to final place as it had to marriage residence. By the end of the Murumachi period, the women lived by their husband’s people. Ancestor consciousness in Japan is very weak. Only with the importation of the concept of lineage from the Korean Peninsula does the history of ancestor worship begun. Free Essays on Death and Hamlet

after the deaths of Hamlet, Claudius, King of Denmark, Gertrude, Queen of Denmark, and Laertes, son of Polonius. Also dead are Hamlet, King of Denmark, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, former friends of Hamlet, Polonius, councilor to the King, and Ophelia, daughter of Polonius. Death is an extremely prevalent theme in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. However, each death is unique in circumstances, causes, and effects. Three important deaths in Hamlet were the deaths of King Hamlet, Ophelia, and Prince Hamlet. The first, and probably most important death in Hamlet, is the death of Prince Hamlet’s father, Hamlet, King of Denmark. Even though this death is not portrayed in the play, it sets off a chain of events that comprise the plot of Hamlet. Hamlet, King of Denmark died recently before the play begins. Claudius, King Hamlet’s brother, succeeded him. This upset Prince Hamlet, who thought he should be the successor. Then, in the very first scene of the play, King Hamlet’s ghost appears to some soldiers and Hamlet’s friend Horatio. The ghost does not speak to them. Horatio tells Hamlet about the ghost, and eventually the ghost appears to Hamlet and speaks with him. The ghost surprises Hamlet by saying, â€Å"If thou didst ever thy dear father love- Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder† (Hamlet, Act I, Scene 5, Lines 23 and 25). Interesting Green Sea Turtle Facts

Interesting Green Sea Turtle Facts Green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) inhabit the beaches and offshore locations of 140 countries throughout the world. They are graceful and serene swimmers who migrate thousands of miles through warm subtropical and tropical oceans. All species of these beautiful reptiles are endangered or threatened. Fast Facts: Green Sea Turtles Scientific Name: Chelonia mydasCommon Name(s): Green sea turtle, black sea turtle (in the eastern Pacific)Basic Animal Group: ReptileSize: Adults grow to between 31–47 inches  Weight: 300–440 poundsLifespan: 80–100 yearsDiet:  HerbivoreHabitat: In warm subtropical and tropical ocean waters. Nesting occurs in over 80 countries, and they live in the coastal waters of 140 countriesPopulation: Two largest are the Tortuguero population on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica (22,500 females nest there each season) and Raine Island in the Australian Great Barrier Reef (18,000 females nest).Conservation Status: Endangered Description Green sea turtles are distinguished by their streamlined shell or carapace, which covers their entire body except for flippers and head. The adult green sea turtle has an upper shell that blends several colors, gray, black, olive, and brown; its undershell, called a plastron, is whitish to yellow. Green sea turtles are named for the greenish color of their cartilage and fat, not their shells. While sea turtles have fairly mobile necks, they cannot withdraw their heads into their shells.   The flippers of sea turtles are long and paddle-like, making them excellent for swimming but poor for walking on land. Their heads are light brown with yellow markings. The green sea turtle has four pairs of costal scutes, large, hard scales which assist in swimming; and one pair of prefrontal scales located between its eyes. Westend61 - Gerald Nowak/Brand X Pictures/Getty Images Species There are seven recognized species of sea turtles, six of which are in the Family Cheloniidae (the hawksbill, green, flatback, loggerhead, Kemps ridley, and olive ridley turtles), with only one (the leatherback) in the family Dermochelyidae. In some classification schemes, the green turtle is divided into two species- the green turtle and a darker version called the black sea turtle or Pacific green turtle.   All sea turtles migrate. Turtles sometimes travel thousands of miles between cooler feeding grounds and warm nesting grounds. A leatherback turtle was tracked by satellite traveling over 12,000 miles for 674 days from its nesting area in Jamursba-Medi beach in Papua, Indonesia to feeding grounds off Oregon. Habitats, diet and the number and arrangement of these scutes are the primary ways to distinguish different sea turtle species. Habitat and Distribution Green sea turtles are found throughout the world in warm subtropical and tropical ocean waters: They nest on the beaches of over 80 countries and live on the coasts of 140 countries. Efforts continue to emphasize the tracking of sea turtle movement using satellite tags to learn more about their migrations and the implications their travels have for their protection. This may help resource managers develop laws that help protect turtles in their full range. Diet and Behavior The only herbivore of the extant sea turtle species, green sea turtles graze on seagrasses and algae, which in turn maintains and fortifies the seagrass beds. They migrate long distances between a wide range of broadly separated localities and habitats during their lifetimes. Tagging studies suggest that ones that nest at Ascension Island in the Atlantic Ocean west of Brazil feed on the Brazilian coast, up to 1,430 miles or more away.   Reproduction and Offspring Sea turtles mature at around age 25–30. The males spend their whole lives at sea, while females mate with the males at sea and then go to selected beaches to dig a hole and lay between 75 to 200 eggs. Female sea turtles may lay several clutches of eggs during a single season, then cover the clutches with sand and return to the ocean, leaving the eggs to fend for themselves. The breeding season occurs in late spring and early summer; the males can breed every year but the females only breed once every three or four years. After a two-month incubation period, the young turtles hatch and run to the sea, facing attack by a variety of predators (birds, crabs, fish) along the way. They drift at sea until they are about a foot long and then, depending on the species, may move closer to shore to feed. Threats Climate change, the loss of habitat, and diseases such as fibropapilloma- which causes benign but ultimately debilitating epithelial tumors on the surface of biological tissues- threaten green sea turtles today. Sea turtles are protected by a variety of national and state laws and international treaties, but hunting of live turtles and harvesting of eggs is still underway in many places. Bycatch, the accidental entanglement in fishing gear such as gillnets or shrimp trawling nets, is responsible for hundreds of thousands of turtle deaths and injuries each year. In addition, oceanic pollution and marine debris have been known to disturb and disrupt migration patterns. Vehicle traffic and development of beaches and light pollution of nesting regions disturbs hatchlings, who often go towards the light rather than towards the ocean. Rising sea temperatures from climate change also affect turtle populations. Because the incubation temperature of eggs determines the animals sex, populations in the northern Great Barrier Reef have experienced imbalances of populations with 90 percent or greater females. Conservation Status All seven species of sea turtles are listed under the Endangered Species Act. Due to conservation efforts, some populations are recovering: Between 1995 and 2015, the Hawaiian green sea turtle increased at a rate of 5 percent per year. Does the Mission Statement or Vision of the firm reflect the companys Case Study

Does the Mission Statement or Vision of the firm reflect the companys focus on customers - Case Study Example As such, without a clear focus on the consumer, for those interested parties who review the mission and or vision statement, the emphasis that the firm places n achieving a degree of customer loyalty and/or customer satisfaction is something that is not referenced at all. In this way, the firm could most certainly benefit from a recalibration of the mission statement and vision that it currently displays (Zara 2011). Although it is heartening to see the that the firm pays such a great deal of attention to the environment and environmental concerns, completely ignoring the role and importance that the customer plays with relation to the business model is perhaps shortsighted. Description of the career you considered and why you found it attractive. Choose one describe what academic degrees, business experience, language skills etc that you will need to be successful. After reviewing the great diversity of careers that are available to the individual interested in a career in marketing, I was particularly drawn to a career in public relations. Public relations and market outreach is a field that interests me because it goes beyond merely marketing a product and directly incorporates elements of social interaction and company representation. In such a way, the individual who works within such a career is ultimately responsible for seeking to challenge public opinion and represent the firm/organization in time of difficulties and in times of success. Ultimately, it is the challenge of such a position that is attractive due to the fact that many individuals employed in public relations type marketing jobs have had the distinct ability to fundamentally alter the means by which the public views the firm and the ultimate product or service offerings they represent (Laskin 2012). Such is not the norm however but it is a possibility for the individual tha t works in such a field. With respect to the particular type of skills and knowledge that is required for such a job, the website that was analyzed to inform his report stated that a degree in good standing from a four year university or college was ultimately a requirement. Planning your Call Assigment Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Planning your Call Assigment - Assignment Example With regard to the past actions by others regarding my chosen policy issue, it is worth noting that a number of legislative actions have been previously undertaken with regard to my chosen policy issue. There are a number of key strategies, messages as well as recommendations involved under in the current policy issue plan. Generally, the proposed policy will largely focus on increasing the number of palliative care workforce in the US local health facilities, investing in technologies related to the provision of palliative care services as well as improving service availability in order to ensure increased equitable access to optimal hospice and palliative care. In the past, a number of individuals, policy makers and organizations have sought to introduce policies that guarantee increased funding for palliative and hospice care services. For example, in the year 2008, the National Priorities Partnership identified improving palliative care as one of the top national policy priorities that should be addressed in order to improve the health care delivery to Americans particularly those with life threatening illnesses. Additionally, the Affordable Care Act of 2010 enacted into law many provisions related to improving access to quality palliative care through a number of ways including increased federal and state funding of the services. However, there is still a significant policy gap in the funding of palliative case services as evidenced by the current inequalities of such services (Longest, 2013). The main federal, state or local policy makers that I will involve in my chosen policy mainly include the local member of congress, local members of the healthcare regulatory organizations like the joint Commission as well as other leaders who have the ability to shape laws and regulations. Although I do not have the exact addresses and phone numbers of each of the policy makers, I intent to visit their

OpenStack Introduction and Uses OpenStack: It is an open-source programming stage for distributed computing, generally sent as a framework and as an administration. The product stage comprises of interrelated segments that control various multi-seller equipments, stockpiling and system administration assets all through a server base. Amazon Web Service: It is a protected cloud administration stage which offers figure control, database stockpiling, content conveyance and many other uses to help organization scale so that they can develop and investigate how a large number of clients are as of now utilizing AWS cloud items and can find answers for construct modern applications with expanded adaptability, versatility and unwavering quality. OpenStack In Cloud: OpenStack falls into the last classification and is viewed as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). The framework implies that OpenStack makes it simple for clients to rapidly include new case, whereas other cloud parts can run on their own. Regularly, the foundation stands first and then runs a stage where an engineer can make programming applications which are conveyed to the end clients, the end client can pick either of the one whereas to utilize the reference executions for each venture or track particular usage for each one of the process. The guarantee of OpenStack is the interoperability among various segments from various sellers or open source projects. It has self-benefit case life cycle administration with the goal that it can do whatever it needs to be done say run, reboot, suspend, resize or end the instances when needed. AWS In Cloud: Amazon Web Service is the one which is most popular all around the world where it manages and maintains the complete infrastructure in the cloud, so as far as business is concerned they are not in need of acquiring any servers or other infrastructure stuffs well in advance instead they can get tons of servers in minutes whereas they can complete the entire project within the deadline in a less budget. AWS are mostly used in Pinterest,Netflix and various other big shot companies and small companies as well. AWS isnt only for the Dropboxes and Reddits, however they can have a few servers on AWS   productively as well. We as of now have been utilizing AWS to have the web backend for a venture web application. AWS has manufactured a world class, exceptionally secure framework, both physically and over the web where server areas are staffed 24-7 via prepared security watches. Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) empower to turn up clones in numerous districts for various situation s in couple of minutes, disposing are in need to rehash the set-up steps unfailingly. Components In OpenStack: OpenStack is a cloud working framework controls wide pools of compute, storage and systems administration assets throught a datacenter where all are monitored through a dashboard that gives heads control while engaging their clients to an arrangement assets through a web interface. The components play a vital role in this process where it is been explained below: Nova: It is utilized for sending and overseeing wide quantities of virtual machines and different occurrences to deal with processing techniques. Swift: It is a capacity framework for articles and records where it permits the framework to stress over how best to ensure that information is moved down if any problem arises with the machines. Cinder: It is a piece stockpiling   part, which is more closely resembling the customary idea of a PC having the capacity to get to particular areas on a drive. Neutron: It guarantees that each of the parts in the OpenStack which it communicates can speak with each other rapidly and productively. Horizon: It is the dashboard behind OpenStack where it provides administrators a view at what is happening in the cloud, and to look over it when required. Keystone: It provides different kinds of access to various process so that the developers can easily track the current clients strategies against keystone. Glance: It gives picture administrations to OpenStack and permits these pictures to be utilized as formats while conveying new virtual machine examples. Components In AWS: It gives on-request figuring assets and administrations in the cloud, with pay-as-you-go estimation. For instance, we can run a server on AWS that we can sign in to where we can arrange, secure, and run similarly as we have a server that is sitting before the developer. There are many types of Amazon Web Service components where some of them are listed below: Elastic Cloud Computing: It offers preconfigured Amazon Machine Images (AMIs), or clients can make their own pictures. The user will decide when to begin and when to end, and then screen the same number of examples as they need, contingent upon workloads. Beowulf V. 13th Warrior :: compare contrast poem movie film

After reading the epic poem Beowulf and watching the movie The 13th Warrior, I find that the differences greatly outnumber the similarities. However, the theme of good versus evil reflects the values of the Anglo-Saxon people in both the poem and the movie. Numerous differences exist in the poem and the movie including the characters, the bloody battles, and the deaths of the heroes.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Many differences occur in the poem and movie. The difference in the heroes names becomes obvious. In the poem the heroes name is Beowulf. In the movie, Boulvine is the hero’s name. Another difference occurs in the monsters. In the poem the head monsters name is Grendle. In the movie though, the monster is called the leader of the Ven. Also, in the poem, Grendle is just one person. In the movies the Ven consist of a group of humans that act like animals.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Another difference in the poem and movie is the bloody battles. In the poem, Beowulf has supernatural powers when he is at battle. In the movie, Boulvine battles with human strengths and power. In the poem Beowulf fights all of his battles alone. In the movie Boulvine battles with several men. One of the famous warriors is the 13th warrior, played by Antonio Banderes. He helps Boulvine fight the Ven. In the poem Beowulf does not fight his third battle until 50 years later. In the movie Boulvine fights his third battle immediately after the second. The last difference that occurs is the difference in the deaths of the heroes. In the poem Beowulf dies form a slash to the throat from a dragon. In the movie Boulvine dies from poison. Beowulf dies as an old man in the poem. In the movie though, he dies as a young man. In the poem, Beowulf kills Grindle and then Grindles mother.

Effects of Education Essay

Education is an act of learning which enables one to realize his or her full potential and know areas that one is talented in order to exploit them[Grusky, 2001]. Education basically entails impacting of knowledge to individual. Social inequality on other hand is lack of basic necessities in life example access to health care and employment opportunities and others. Those individuals who are socially unequal with others are excluded form full and equal participation from what is important is one’s social life. Education has not had effect in increasing opportunity for all but instead it has reinforced existing social inequality. This is evidenced since one can only be educated on basic of his or her social class and their results to division between individuals, those who are educated continue to prosper while those who are not remain in poverty. It can also be evidenced in economic inequality since this is mainly as a result of social inequality. Economic inequality links with social inequality in that poor financial status hinders people from obtaining some education while some standards as others is , they cannot obtain the same housing, healthcare and also education. Lack of these basic necessities results to people living in the different classes to use different technologies according to their income. Socially education places people in different status which are mainly achieved through education because it determines over occupation which is the main determinant of one’s status in a community. In this, education brings about these differences since those who are educated bring up their siblings in the same status but for those who are not educated they cannot afford good education for their siblings. The position of a person in community can be determined by the social class one is in due to what he or she has achieved. This mainly comes in varying level of education that one has attained since those who are educated are employed and subsequently their standards of living are raised which make them different from common man who did not access education and therefore has not been able to achieve anything. People in different status are positioned differently in the society in regard to the way they can access different goods and services. Therefore the issue of education in status makes it clear that the social standards are very different between the education and those who are not learned because they have no opportunity to experience the high status of life. The difference brought about by effect of education on reinforcing social inequalities has resulted to basic life change. Such changes include physical health where by people don’t get access to the same health intervention which results in deterioration of health in those individuals who did not benefit from education. Apart from Medical intervention, learned individual have gained access to learning how one can live healthy, eat well to prevent diseases and they can readily access healthy product as compared to those who have no money nor basic education to help them overcome the poor health. The educated tend to keep the knowledge to themselves and help those who are also educated and leave the less fortunate to suffer with no =one to help them since they do not have money or basic education to help them overcome poor physical health. More also, social inequality brought about by difference in education background has brought about life change in psychological health in that those who are not educated have so many problems which keeps on torturing the affected person mentally. The psychological health can be brought about by depression or isolation from the others who consider one to be of low life since he or she has not gone through education system. Others engage in excessive drinking of alcohol and other illicit drugs which end up in destroying their mental capability which results to poor psychological health. In contrast social inequality comes in since those who are educated, even if problems comes their way they have different means of dealing with them and thus why they are always in good psychological health unlike the unlearned ones. Inequality can also be evidenced in basic life changes in food and shelter one uses. The issue of education does not benefit all since the educated can have good standards of life and live in good houses and eat better food than those who are not educated. These differences make people to have different social style since poor will only socialize with those whom they share the same social class with and the same applies to the rich. Particularly, social inequality comes in when one is wealthy which make them to use their money power to achieve various political powers but in contrast the poor remain poorer since they have no one to represent them due to lack of education. In other words education only benefits those who are educated but it’s not for all. The poor who are basically not educated, politically are much different from the uneducated since they are not equally represented which increases inequality in the society. Education has also brought difference in different racial; and ethnic group. This is because a different group views the value of education differently and the educated one continues to benefit while those who are not remain poor and poorer. Some groups values education while others do not which makes them to live in two distinct social classes. Their social inequalities are much strengthened by education since the educated and uneducated persons cannot interact freely. Also the level of education is different in different races and ethnic groups regarding to the way each group values the concept of education. Those who are learned can afford different technologies example the use of computer as compared to those who can not afford advanced technology and end up using manual methods to carry put their tasks. These differences makes individual not to interact freely with each other. Education has brought existing social inequality since it has brought difference in accessing job opportunities. Those who are educated mainly gets better jobs which distinct them from their uneducated counterparts who can not be offered the same job since they belong to different social class brought about by the level of education. Also operation of basic businesses requires educated individuals which entirely create a gap in operation between those who are educated and those who are not. The amount of wealth one has determines his social class which creates a gap between the rich and the poor. Those who are not learned are at a risk of social inequality since they lack access to basic education. This creates difference between the learned individual and therefore they can not relate freely. Socially these people are discriminated by those who are learned. Education has also brought about inequalities in goods and services taxes. During payments of these taxes inequality based on social class is evidenced since different individuals are taxed differently and in this, less educated may pay less taxes as compared to those who are educated since they have many assets as compared to poor. Sex and gender can also cause social in equality (Grusky, 2001). Many people view works differently and see to it that different jobs are for different sex. For example in most countries women are considered to perform domestic chaos while men go to work in offices. This creates inequality since even women can work in their areas and they should not be denied chance to work. Like in military jobs are viewed to be for men but in real sense even there are some women who can perform those tasks better than men. Geographical location of individual also matters since it depends on how those living in that geographical area view education and the impact it have in their lives. Citizenship is another factor since you find those living in different countries has achieved different levels of education which is different from each other. Their differences shows that the two groups cannot interact freely which brings about social inequality. Social inequality can Stimulate social conflicts and lead to political instability. People of different social background do not interact freely and incase of political instability you can see the two groups fighting. These social inequalities can result to family violence and breakups and this is evidenced when one is more educated than the other and therefore they share different social background. They can also stimulate street crimes whereby some people see to others as more advantaged than others since may be they are looking for jobs which are not forthcoming due difference in their educational backgrounds. Therefore, they can end up fighting those who they consider their rivals. These inequalities can also result to hate- crimes where one consider another person as a hindrance to his or her success or may be you hate your parents since they did not give basic education which is much needed. Therefore education has effect in increasing opportunity for all can only be achieved if everyone has had access to basic education which can be used to unify everyone. Otherwise, for unequal distribution of education it results to social inequality which is the case in real life today. So education has reinforced the existing social inequalities because not every one has an access to basic education to give opportunity to all.

How two businesses are organised Essay

In this assignment I will be discussing about how two businesses are organised. The two businesses that I will be discussing about is BHP Billiton and Battersea Dogs and Cats home. The first business that I will be discussing about is BHP Billiton and how they have organised their business.BHP Billiton is an Anglo-Australian multinational mining, metals and petroleum company headquarter in Melbourne. BHP Billiton is the world’s largest mining company measured by 2013 revenue. It was created in 2001 through the merger of the Australian Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited. The first way BHP Billiton is divided into is within the function. Within BHP Billiton the function is the Chief Development Officer who is in charge of development of the company and researches about countries that BHP Billiton has not mined in. chief Financial Officer who is in charge of finance of the business. The Chief Legal Counsel is the person is who is responsible for the legal issue within the business; this is done by meeting the legal requirements for a particular business. The Group Vice President Human Resources is responsible for the people management within a business. Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer is the person who is responsible within making sure that the business meets their customer needs, they also make sure that they also meet their business needs, this is done by making sure the business has the right quality of product, the price of the product and also by advertising their product to attract the target market which are the customers. BHP Billiton is organised by the product group. These roles consist of the President Petroleum, this is the person who is responsible for all the extraction of the petroleum, the Senior Minerals Executive, and this is the person who is responsible for all the minerals collected from the mining. President Energy Coal, this is the person who is responsible for collecting the coal. President Carbon Steel Materials, this is person who is responsible for making of the carbon steel. The second business that I will be discussing about is Battersea Dogs and Cats home is the United Kingdom’s oldest and most famous home for dogs and  cat and is situated in the Battersea area of London. It is financed by voluntary donations with an income of almost  £12.2million in 2010. The main aim of the business is to reunite dogs and cats with their owners and work in a community to educate people about responsibility of ownership. Battersea Dogs and Cats home has only one organised structure which is function also known as department, there is 9 functions within this organisation. This consist of Director of Education and Events, this is the person who is responsible for doing events for the business for the company to have the attention and awareness for people to donate. This is also done by going into schools to educate kids about on how to take care of animals and the responsibility they will have for the animal. Director of Communications, this is the person in the company who is responsible for the communication of media contact for the organisation and giving a better value of the company. Director of Finance is the person who is responsible for making sure that all the donations that come in for the business are recorded and kept safe, they also make decision for the finance of the business and how it should be dealt with. Director of Human Resources is the person who is responsible for the person’s management within the business. Director of Estates and Facilities, this is the person who is responsible for making sure that the business has the right facilities for the business that will be able to take care of the animals. Director of Fundraising, this is the person who is responsible for arranging fundraising events so that people can donate money for the business. Director of Operations (Customer Service), this is person who is responsible for customer complaints and enquires. Director of Operations (Animal Welfare) this is the person who is responsible for the welfare of the animal and also the safety of the animal. Director of Veterinary Services, this is the person who is responsible for the medical and health of the animal. The Line of Control is an individual who is responsible for the line of management. BHP Billiton has used the line of manager. For example BHP Billiton have done this by having the ‘Top down’ approach this means that the manager of the company such as the CEO are at the top are responsible for everyone who works within the business. This is done by making sure that all the staffs is doing the right job and if everything is up to high standard. The line of control for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home has four lines of control and 18 spans of control. The  staff and employees report to the managers and the managers will report to the director. Battersea Dogs and Cats Home also have a 3 layer structure, this works by the Chief Executive informing the directors on what they have to do for the business and then they will pass on the information to the managers so that they are then able to pass on to their staffs and volunteers. Within these two businesses I will be looking at those four different ways in dividing work within the organisation which are the following: 1) Function 2) Geographical location 3) Product groups 4) Types of customers The first organisational structure is function. This is when the people who in the department are divided up what their purpose in the company are, for example marketing. The second organisational structure is geographical location, this is the people who work in the company are divided up by where they work, or what area of the country/world they look after. The third organisational structure is product groups, this is the people who work for the company are divided up by what they produce or look after in the company. The four and last organisational structure is type of customers, this is the people who work in the company are divided up by which type of customers their job related for, for example individual customers or business customers. Within these four organisational structure BHP Billiton only two of these structures. The first structure is Function; this is the area that is responsible for a particular job in the department such as finance, development officers, petroleum, and legal counsel, vice president of Human Resources, Vice President of Marketing, President of Metals and Carbon Steel Materials. However Battersea Dogs and Cats Home only have one of these organisational structures. The type of organisational structure they have is function but have are divided into nine groups, this is the director of communications, Director of Education and Events, Director of Finance, Director of Estate and Facilities, Director of Human Resources, Director of Fundraising, Director of Operations (Animal Welfare) and Director of Operations (Customer Service). BHP Billiton Chart for their Business BHP Billiton has this hierarchy structure to present their business as they have a more of a wider range of employees that work within departments and businesses. The charts show us how each employee works in the business and what their job role is.
